ABOUT ABOUT

Join us for an adaptive reuse doubleheader! Behind the Story heads to Fishtown to take a look at PlayArts, a daycare center housed in the repurposed Thompson Bath House located at 1241 N. Front Street. Dennis Carlisle wrote about the history of the building in the Hidden City Daily in 2014 and Mike Bixler later took a look at plans for its restoraton. Rachel Hildebrandt wrote about Everybody Hits Batting Cages making its home at 529 West Girard Ave in a 19th century market turned movie theater way back in 2012

First, we’ll visit with Krista and Steve Yutzy-Burkey of PlayArts, who will talk about the process of transforming the public bath house into a daycare center. Hidden City project director Pete Woodall will fill in with details on the site’s history and provide some historic context along the walk to our second destination. We will end the tour at Everybody Hits, where we’ll talk with owner David Gavigan about the adaptive reuse project and maybe stay to hit some balls. Tour time is approximately 1.5-2 hours.

Starting point: PlayArts, 1241 N. Front St.
Ending point: Everybody Hits, 529 W. Girard Ave.

Tour time: approximately 1.5-2 hours
